Now that the 2016 Rio Olympics has already finished, let us take time to recall the best moments during the games. Join us as we list down the top ten winning moments in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
10. Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’Agostino
What better way to start this list than beginning with some Olympic heart? And what much better way to show this than featuring Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’Agostino’s emotional 5000m run? Nikki and Abbey both stumbled during the heat of the run. Abbey was the first to stand up and helped Nikki up. Moments after, Abbey goes down again, and this time around Nikki’s the one helping her out until both of them makes it to the finish line. Now if THAT’S not what sportsmanship is all about, then I don’t know what is.
9. Wayde van Niekerk
Wayde was a beast in the track and he proved it three effin’ times. First, he beat the world record for the fastest time in the 400m run. Second, he won coming from the eighth lane in the final and won (which NO ONE has ever done before). And finally, he won the gold.
8. Simone Biles
Let’s face it. We all knew Biles was going to win a lot that even her four gold medals didn’t really surprise us. Her perfect Olympic moment came though when she finally got an unexpected prize, but this time, coming from the Today show where she was surprised by none other than her biggest crush, Zac Efron himself!
7. Pita Nikolas Taufatofua
Ahh yes, one of the guys we all loved to hate during the Games. He first made a mark during the opening ceremony as the greasy muscled guy bearing Tonga’s flag. Apparently, the oil was a part of his costume after all. Tss. You and your coconut oil. You think you’re the only guy who can pour oil on your body? I can do that on my (imaginary) abs too!
6. Brazilian Football Team
It has not been that long since Brazil took home the gold in football, but it was already an unbearable drought for this football-crazy country. Fortunately they had Neymar, and needless to say, they won!
5. Yusra Mardini
We have seen the world’s first ever Team Refugee, but nothing is more fascinating than watching the team’s hottie Yusra Mardini swim. Too bad she did not take home the medal – but she did take home, our hearts.
4. Kimia Alizadeh
It was truly a big moment for Iran when Kimia Alizadeh took home a medal for Taekwando in Rio. She was the first Iranian woman to ever take home a medal in all Olympics history.
3. Gisele Bundchen
Aye, she’s not an athlete, but any hottie who can walk among the sport gods and strut it like a queen will always be in my top three best moments. Way to go and represent Brazil Gisele! You looked like a silvery star slowly trailing the sky (or the stage) to the tune of “The Girl from Ipanema”.
2. Usain Bolt
Now that we’re almost at the end of the list, we have Usain Bolt at number two and his triple-triple win, winning the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay in three consecutive Olympic Games.
1. Michael Phelps
In the past, Phelps viewed himself as nothing but a fish, swimming in a highly-viewed aquarium. The world on the other hand, viewed him as a freaking swimming robot, who knows nothing else but swim fast. Well, he does swim fast, there’s no doubt in that. But when he returned to Rio, he swam as an entirely different man. A family man, with a big heart. Others doubted if he’ll still take home the medal. Well, he took home six medals more, ending his career with a bang!
