The Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive Unveiled

Mercedes-Benz took the world by storm at the Paris Motor Show by unveiling an electric version of the awesome SLS AMG, dubbed as the “Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive”. It looks exactly the same as the normal SLS AMG, including the gullwing doors, but it’s all electric and it’s apparently even more powerful than the petrol version.

The guys at Mercedes claim that it’s the most powerful electric vehicle in the world right now. There’s no combustion engine under the hood and the wheels are driven by four synchronous electric motors which make this supercar a 4 wheel drive.  All these motors have a combined power output of 740 horsepower and 999 Nm of torque which is 177 HP and 351 Nm more than the regular SLS AMG.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds and it could reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph or 250 km/h. The energy comes from a massive 60 kWh battery pack which weights 1,208 pounds (548 kg) installed withing the transmission tunnel and behind the front seats.

The car will be launched on the market next year and will have a starting price of 416,500 EUR or around $539,000. Pretty damn expensive for an electric car that you don’t even know how far it can take you, right?
