It’s sportier, more powerful and lighter than the normal SLS AMG, just like the other Black Series models from Mercedes. It has a new aerodynamics package, inspired by the GT3 racecar, with a new front splitter, side skirts and a large carbon fiber rear diffuser with room for an ultra light titanium exhaust with quad tailpipes.
This exhaust is 28 pounds lighter than the standard version and thanks to other upgrades like a new set of 20″ lightweight forged alloy wheels and carbon ceramic brakes, this car weights only 3,417 pounds (1,550 kg) or around 154 pounds (70 kg) lighter than the standard model.
Under the hood, the massive 6.2L V8 engine was tweaked a bit and got its power increased from 583 hp to 622 hp and 8,000 rpm. This was achieved with a new air intake, new camshafts, improved oil and water cooling and an upgrade for the engine control unit. After all these upgrades and the weight reduction, you can imagine that this supercar is a little bit faster, right?
It can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the normal version of the car, and it can reach a top speed of 196 mph or around 315 km/h.
The interior of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series was also refined with a carbon center console, ultra light sports seats that save an extra 15 kg, a steering wheel covered in Alcantara and many other improvements. There’s no word on pricing yet, but it will surely start from over $300,000.
