Manchester City tops United in Manchester derby for the title

The battle for Manchester was bigger than ever yesterday, with Manchester City hosting United in the most important game of the Premier League this season, both teams fighting for the title, with just two games left to play. United needed only a draw to retain top spot and almost certainly secure their 20th Premier League title while the Citizens had to win this game to go over United and close on their first championship since 1968.

I was expecting to see an awesome game in the derby of all derbies between these two teams from Manchester, but to be honest, it was pretty damn boring. Vincent Kompany’s header from a corner gave Manchester City a much needed 1-0 victory against United that certainly pleased City fans and sent the team to the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester United went in for a draw and played with an unadventurous five-man midfield that hasn’t created any occasions and probably that’s why we haven’t seen an exciting game between these two.  If City win in the last two games, away at Newcastle and home to QPR, they’ll win the title and shift the balance of power in Manchester after United dominated for decades.
