Both cars made contact and ploughed into the cars ahead in dramatic fashion taking down Alonso, Sergio Perez and also affecting Kamui Kobayashi (who started from the front row) and Pastor Maldonado (who jumped the start). The accident totally changed the race order, with Button leading in front of Kimi Raikkonen, Niko Hulkenberg, Paul di Resta and Michael Schumacher.
Button quickly charged away from the rest, and the Red Bulls came back in the race pretty fast after being delayed by the accident. Vettel advanced slowly one place after another thanks to a great pit stop strategy and at the end of the race he managed to finish second, followed by Kimi Raikkonen on the podium.
