The first thing that pops up in people’s minds when it comes to biking or cycling is physical fitness. Anyone would immediately associate the act of biking as an exercise to become physically fit. After all, it builds muscles in the calves and legs and improves breathing. However, physical fitness is not the only benefit of biking. Would you believe that taking the time to bike a few minutes a day can actually help make the brains stronger? Most people would think it impossible to get smarter just by cycling. However, research has shown that it really does improve one’s intelligence. Here are a few reasons why biking can make you smarter.

And no, we don’t just mean exercising will lead enhanced energy levels to start studying. If only it were that true. But what is really happening is that the more exercise a person gets done, the more proteins are made by the neurons. This, in turn, will lead to the production of new brain cells. The more new brain cells are introduced, the more neurons are built. And neurons are basically what makes up the brain. So if you put two and two together, exercising increases productivity in the brain, which helps build and reconstruct it.

Lower stress levels.

Biking or cycling is a great way to relieve some stress. Whenever a person gets stressed out because of a long day of work, or deadlines to reach, or a physically and emotionally demanding boss, stress levels increase. With the increase of stress levels comes the decline of the production of new brain cells. This is particularly troublesome because not only does it slow the production, it can also cause harm to the brain cells themselves. And once a cell dies it, it can’t be revived or reused again.

Although most people would reason out that biking is merely for fitness or leisure, it can actually affect a person’s intelligence. From the mental capacity of a brain due to the productivity of neurons and brain cells, to the possibility of decreasing stress levels. Who wouldn’t want to go biking? Besides, biking can also be good for the mental health. This is because it keeps people happy, active, and exposed to nature. Whatever the reason is for a person to go biking, it does not change the fact that it is an activity with tons of benefits.
